The “Open Cellars” event in Tuscany is organized by the Wine Tourism Movement and this will be the 26th edition. On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May 2019, the Chianti Classico cellars will open their doors to wine lovers – an event for enthusiasts and more. An extremely popular event for “enotourists”! In the last few years this initiative recorded almost a million visitors.

“Open Cellars” is the most important wine tourism event in Italy. Since 1993 and over time it has become a philosophy, a way of travelling and discovering the Italian wine producing terroirs which, each year, records a higher number of curious tourists and wine tourism ‘aficionados’ who come to the wineries because they wish to have a novel experience.

Apart from the opportunity to taste the different wines and buy them directly from the winery, it is possible to visit the cellars and discover the secrets of vinification and ageing.

The “real beauty” of wine

The typical “Open Cellars” format allows visitors to come to the winery at their leisure and at the preferred time of day. However, to enjoy a unique experience, some wineries prefer bookings. For this reason we suggest you check beforehand whether a booking is required, as well as opening times.

Furthermore, only wineries that have adhered to the “Open Cellars” rules and who display the “We are Open Cellars – 2019” logo guarantee the amazing quality of this event. Beware of imitations!

Not just wine

During the two days you can taste wines and buy them directly from the winery, as well as taking part in unique events in the area. You will learn the secrets of winemaking and ageing with guided tours offered by each producer. You can also taste excellent dishes in top quality restaurants accompanied by the best regional wines.

At the Vignale restaurant you will be able to sample traditional Tuscan dishes elegantly interpreted by our Chef. Venison tartare and “Chianina” beef, home-made pasta, Tuscan soups and fish dishes, accompanied by exceptional local wines, whilst enjoying the awesome views from the panoramic terrace.

For nature lovers we can offer trekking and horse riding. Art lovers will be able to choose between a wide range of different artistic and music shows in the cellars.

So “not just wine”! Visitors can take the opportunity to visit the beautiful Chianti Classico region and stay in the charming hotels that adhere to the initiative and guarantee a high-level welcome. Wine tourism offers and special packages are available for tourists during the week-end dedicated to discovering top quality Chianti Classico wines, nature and traditional local cuisine.
