the majestic Meleto Castle is a charming construction, strategically located on the top of an hilll on the boundaries of the Republic of Siena and the Republic of Florence, and the castle of Meleto has been the theatre of many wars between the Guelphs and the Gibellines, including the second Aragonese invasion of the Chianti region in 1478 when it was occupied by enemy troops as well as during the Medici War in 1529 when it was sieged by Siena’s militia.

The castle still has a military layout. It comprises an irregular four-sided stronghold with the Cassero tower at the centre. The interior of the castle has many furnished rooms embellished with XVIII Century frescos and a rather unique and charming small theatre.
